Achilles Tendon Injury
Achilles Taping
- Position the ankle in the amount of dorsiflexion that causes pain/discomfort
- Then slightly plantarflex and maintain this position
- Apply anchors in mid-foot and mid-calf
- Use 2”or 3” Elastikon as it will provide for some movement
- Anchor Elastikon strip on the calf and pull down and anchor on the foot
- Must maintain foot position
- Repeat procedure 3 times
- Clinical Tip!
- Cut the middle of the tape and tear to allow for a greater contact on the surface (prevent slipping)
- Close with either J&J Zonas or stretch tape

- Apply heel locks and figure 8’s to provide more stability to the ankle joint
- Clinical Tip!
- Use a felt heel lift to take additional pressure off the Achilles tendon
- Replace felt pad often
