Knee Injuries
Knee Hyperextension
- Position knee in 10°-20° of flexion
- Apply J-wrap to knee from mid-calf to mid-thigh
- Apply 2-3 anchors to mid calf and mid-thigh
- Clinical Tip:
- Use a heel lift to keep knee in proper position
- Use elastic tape for anchors to allow muscles to contract/relax with minimum pressure
- Apply 3 posterior strips proximal to distal similar to Achilles tendon taping procedure
Knee MCL Taping
- Follow same set-up procedure as with Knee Hyperextension taping
- Run 1st strip from posterior medial calf, obliquely superior to mid thigh crossing the MCL
- Run 2nd strip from lateral calf moving up over MCL and finishing on thigh anchor
- Clinical Tip:
- Keep tape away from the borders of the patella to allow for proper tracking.
- Repeat process 3 times for each section
- Clinical Tip:
- The 3 strips should cover the entire portion of the MCL to provide maximum support to the ligament.
- Close from distal to proximal with elastic tape
- Clinical Tip:
- Leave the patella region open to allow for proper patella tracking.
